Who are you?

ChillCraft Cold Beverage Lab was founded in 2023 by a collective of specialty-coffee roasters, craft-brewers, and food-science enthusiasts aiming to demystify the art and science of cold drinks. Based in Vancouver with contributors from Montreal to Halifax, our mission is to empower both hobbyists and professionals with evidence-based techniques, innovative recipes, and community-driven insights.
We organize content into three pillars: Cold Extraction Science, Flavor Innovation, and Equipment Mastery. In Cold Extraction Science, we delve into the chemistry of water temperature, grind size, and steep time—providing data-backed protocols for cold brew, nitro infusion, and tea steeping. Flavor Innovation covers recipe development for craft sodas, shrubs, kombucha blends, and non-alcoholic cocktails—complete with botanical pairing charts, fermentation guides, and sugar-alcohol balance calculators. Equipment Mastery offers hands-on reviews, maintenance tutorials, and calibration guides for everything from home cold-brew pitchers to commercial-scale chilling systems.

Our expert panel includes coffee Q-graders, certified Cicerones, microbiologists specializing in fermentation, and mechanical engineers who optimize chiller designs. All articles undergo peer review and field testing in partner cafés, labs, and home kitchens across Canada’s diverse climates. We host monthly virtual “Tasting Labs” where members compare brew parameters in real time, and seasonal recipe challenges judged by industry pros. ChillCraft is more than recipes—it’s a collaborative laboratory where science meets creativity to transform how Canadians enjoy cold beverages.

Our edge

  • Data-Driven Cold Brew Protocols

ChillCraft’s cold brew guides are grounded in rigorous extraction science. We provide precise recipes that specify water chemistry parameters—TDS targets, pH ranges, mineral content—and calibrate grind size distributions via microscopy imaging. Steep times are optimized using kinetic models to maximize desirable solubles (acids, sugars, aromatics) while minimizing bitterness and astringency. Each protocol includes calibration logs, extraction yield calculators, and sensory wheels to guide taste evaluation. Whether you’re brewing in a French press, Toddy system, or commercial cold-brew tower, our data-driven approach guarantees consistent, café-quality results every batch.
  • Craft Soda & Fermentation Innovation

Move beyond basic syrups with ChillCraft’s library of craft soda and fermented-beverage recipes. Our flavor architects combine culinary arts with microbial ecology to develop balanced shrubs, botanical tonics, and kombucha blends. We detail yeast and bacterial culture selection, sugar-nutrient ratios, fermentation vessel sanitation, and carbonation control—ensuring food-safety compliance with Canadian Health Canada guidelines. Interactive flavor-pairing matrices help you experiment with local botanicals—maple, spruce tips, berries—while our hazard-analysis critical-control-point (HACCP) templates support small-scale commercial production.
  • Comprehensive Equipment Reviews & Calibration

Investing in the right gear is crucial. ChillCraft engineers test chillers, infusion taps, kegerators, and precision grinders across metrics—temperature stability, flow rate, maintenance complexity, and energy consumption. Our side-by-side labs simulate real-world Canadian conditions: high-humidity summer cafés and sub-zero winter cellars. Detailed calibration guides walk you through PID-controller tuning for chillers, pressure adjustments for nitro systems, and burr alignment for grinders. All reviews include maintenance schedules, spare-part sources, and ROI analyses to help you choose equipment that fits your volume, budget, and quality goals.
  • Interactive Recipe Customization Tools

Our web-based Drink Builder lets you design bespoke cold beverages by adjusting variables—brew ratio, infusion time, botanical concentration, carbonation level—and preview expected TDS, ABV (for fermentations), and flavor-profile spider charts. The tool integrates with your inventory database, generating ingredient shopping lists and cost-per-serving calculations. Once you finalize a recipe, you can export step-by-step brewing sheets or share it with the ChillCraft community for feedback. This dynamic, data-linked environment accelerates R&D and enables both home enthusiasts and commercial developers to innovate confidently.
  • Community Tasting Labs & Peer Reviews

ChillCraft fosters collaborative learning through monthly virtual Tasting Labs. Members receive ingredient kits and protocol outlines, then brew in their home or café, uploading tasting notes and scored sensory data via our platform. We aggregate results into statistical flavor maps, highlight consensus preferences, and invite expert panel feedback. Peer-review features let users comment on each other’s recipes, suggest tweaks, and form recipe co-development teams. This iterative, social approach transforms solitary brewing into a rich, community-driven innovation process.
  • Regulatory & Commercialization Support

For café owners or micro-producers aiming to launch cold-beverage lines, ChillCraft offers guidance on regulatory compliance—food-safety certifications, label requirements under CFIA, and shelf-life testing protocols. We connect you with co-packing facilities, label-print services, and distribution channels across Canadian provinces. Our commercialization toolkit includes business-plan templates, cost-of-goods calculators, and marketing-planning guides to help you scale from kitchen experiments to retail-ready products.
Our solutions
Customized Cold-Brew System Design
